Truth Restored
In 1820, as He had done throughout history, Father in Heaven again chose a prophet to restore the gospel and the priesthood to the earth. He called a young man named Joseph Smith, and through him, the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth. Learn more by clicking on the image of Joseph Smith's First Vision.
My Testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ
It was late, and I lay still in my bed listening to my parents in the next room.
"Brayton, She's just too young! You can't possibly expect...".
"Janette, She's got to know! She's got to have her OWN testimony before I can baptize her."
Tucked tight in my covers I thought, "Too young indeed"! I determined right there to find my own testimony. I had one month before my 8th birthday and my baptism. I would do it on my own because clearly grown-ups would be no help. I quietly slipped out of my bed and knelt on the floor. I prayed silently in my head so that the grown-ups would not hear.
As I prayed I told my Heavenly Father about my situation. I asked Him, "Did Joseph Smith really do all that stuff we learned about in Primary?" I stayed on my knees waiting for something to happen. Nothing .
The next night I quietly slipped out of bed and asked my Heavenly Father the same question. Nothing. The next night I asked again. Nothing. I asked the same question every night for one month, and that's forever in kid-months! But, nothing.
At last the time for my baptism had come. I determined that I would be baptized even though I had not received an answer because "all that stuff we learned about in Primary" just made sense.
My baptism was wonderful! The Spirit was so warm and cozy. I felt the love of my family and of my Father in Heaven.
When my father laid his hands on my head to give me the gift of the Holy Ghost, he said in the blessing, "Your Heavenly Father is pleased that you have sought to know for yourself if Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God."
He heard me! Heavenly Father had heard my silent prayer and He answered me! Too young indeed.
I treasure this experience and I share it with you in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, amen. Jennifer Jackson
